Smoke Baned in French Public Places

In case you were planning on going to enjoy a glass of wine with your Bali Shag in a cafe somewhere in Paris, you won’t be able to. Smoking is banned in all public places including airports and office buildings. The ban went into effect today.

More surprisingly, 70% of the French support the ban. If you do plan to light up, the fine is 68 euros or just under ?50 (about $100). Smokers have some right to appeal any penalties until December 2007 so they can be “eased” into the ban.

I wouldn’t count on it though.
