In reply to Heather on her travels. It's good to have the option and better for consumers. Me I'd rather pay a few extra dollars for a ticket and get some food or drinks. I think I'm in the minority though.

In reply to Mark H. I like everything included into the price as well. Having to pay for things individually doesn't do much to the image of the airlines that charge for each service.

Surely Ryanair in the UK are the pioneer of this approach, but I suppose it’s inevitable as we all expect cheaper and cheaper seats these days – and the price of low cost travel is lots of add-ons. See the video about Ryanair’s add ons and some tips on how to avoid them.

I see a fair few of these posts. To me the fare is simply the addition of all these different services which previously was built into one all encompassing price. I’d also rather go back to older times when you paid your fare and got the whole thing delivered (luggage checked in, a movie, a bit of food and a drink, a blanket and pillow,…). The success of the cheaper airlines (Southwest, RyanAir, …) shows that consumers have effectively voted for this scheme where all you get now for your fare is a ride for yourself in a random seat to where you want to go. Everything else is extra.
