It reminds me of one specific comment that lead me to write this post 🙂

So interesting to read but I always wonder why Fethiye has such an identity crisis! In any event, like you say it doesn’t matter what it’s called, it’s beautiful either way.

Ha ha, enjoyed reading this again. We were all set for re-entering Fethiye this year but a few things are changing so we’ll wait and see. There’s a bit of a Beşkaza renaissance going on in these parts, completely supported by the mayor. Fethiye was the central district for 5 areas, going out towards Patara way, in Ottoman times. Seems if they can’t break from Muğla, they’ll try the Ottoman history route. 😉 Our new town square is called Beşkaza Meydanı, our clock tower has Beşkaza written on it and the main football chant is now ‘Burası Beşkaza’ and rumour has it that the supporters’ group may be changing their name from Apaçiler (never understood that one, anyway) to Beşkazalı. Might not be official, but Fethiye’s all about just knowing in your heart that you’re a city – whatever name you have to give it. 😉
