You can't go within a quarter of a mile radius in Orkney without finding something of phenomenal historic and archaeological interest. The flora and fauna and ornithology are wonderful too, some of each unique to the islands, as is the geology and sea life.

Seven tides meet in the Pentland Firth, across which the boats sail you into Stromness and Kirkwall, but poor sailors can fly in or take the wee short ferry crossing from John o Groats up Wick way, to South Ronaldsay. :)

How about Kirkwall capital of the northern Scottish islands of Orkney. Fascinating history and archaeology within and outwith the city. A small city but it has a cathedral so it is a city....

Warm, friendly and welcoming folk and beautiful beaches....not far from the ancient Skara Brae: a village dated 5,000 years before the pyramids and showing signs of advanced civilisation, engineering techniques (drainange systems etc.....Best to go see for yourself. AND, you might be sufficiently fortunate as to catch an amazing display of the Aurora Borealis, while there.. :)

June no darkness: December, no daylight. Dawn and dusk merely intermingle mid summer and again in mid winter.

Go and enjoy the clean waters around these islands and DO go see the cathedral.....
