I would also like to thank you Anil. I just returned from my 18th trip to Cuba and can say that your post is absolutely correct. I would, however, like to add a few things.

Since travel restrictions for Americans have essentially been eliminated, crowds in Cuba are huge. Along with that is price gouging, especially in the State run hotels and restaurants. The way you spent your time there in a casa particular is certainly the best way to go. It not only saves a lot of money but it helps the Cuban owner. But maybe the best part is, you have the opportunity to meet the REAL Cuban people and that is a very interesting part of the trip.

Also, eating in paladars rather than the State run restaurants will save a little money. It might not be a lot cheaper but the quality of food and service will be much, much better.

Thank you for the comment - I think it's why so many want to visit and what makes Cuba so interesting, it can be seen from so many very different angles.

This is one of the most sensible, thoughtful posts I have read about Cuba in a long, long time. Cuba is hard to decipher, and I am glad to see you didn't even try and yet appreciated it regardless. Thank you Anil!
