This JUST happened to me. Used it for three months trial with no issue. The minute I paid for the year, I used all 5GB in 4 days, and the last 1 GB spent (with WIFI on) while I was on the phone with customer service. Got disconnected and called back. After another 40+ minutes and the rep consulting technical support, I'm told: we never gave you the 5 GB so that will be fixed in the next 8 hours. Great. Of course, that never happened. So I call back with my ticket # the next day. Yes you are correct we did have that ticket number but tech support looked into this, you used the 5 GB so we closed the ticket. Like others, I'm not using the phone any differently and 1 GB melts away while I'm on WIFI and on phone with them. We call this bait and switch and I will do what I can to report them but at end of day, they'll just say I used the 5 GBs. Never had such an experience and now must find a new provider since no reason to think it won't keep happening.

We signed up with two lines of service with the Mint Mobile 5G plan. With our previous carrier, we never used more than 3GB in a month. The first month, both Mint lines supposedly went through 5G of data in a few days. After the data reloaded for the next month, we went through another 5G of data OVERNIGHT the first night. WHILE WE WERE SLEEPING. WHAT?? And it doesn't just slow down after you exceed the cap; the phone is pretty much useless. Repeated calls to customer service simply tell me that we're using up all the data and we can try turning mobile data off while we're near WiFi, which is ridiculous. To make things worse, I'm a dummy and pre-paid for a year to lock in a low rate.

I'm willing to bet with a new service you all are testing the speed you get.. Right?
I just checked my usage on my phone and guess what.. "Speedtest" uses almost one full gig of data each time it is run. Tha means last month I used 4 gig of my 6 gigs on just four simple speed tests.
That is my issue. can any of you relate?

In reply to <a href="https://foxnomad.com/2022/11/03/mint-mobiles-data-usage-might-be-confusing-your-phone/#comment-869847">Anil Polat</a>.

Happy with Mint Mobile 4G for several years. But as soon as I upgraded to a 5G phone and set it to use 5G, that's exactly when my plan was eaten up to fast. I simply set the phone to use 4G/LTE only and I never had that over data limit issue again.

i even 5G speed tested today, just before my plan was to be renewed. I had 0.8GB remaining prior. After the speed test, I had 0.6GB remaining. Using 5G setting, I used 0.8-0.6 = 0.2GB = 200MB data.

So, advice to all: If you really don't need 5G, set your phone to 4G/LTE and you'll probably not go over too often.

Cheers!
