I think that it is awesome that you can still get a slice of life from home abroad. I may be a bit biased since Halloween is my favorite holiday, but I'm already panicking over how we will celebrate it when we're on our trip next year.

Cute pics!

In reply to <a href="https://foxnomad.com/2010/10/28/halloween-in-seoul-south-korea/#comment-122763">Cherish Vang</a>.

Cherish,
A few brief answers :)

why is halloween celebrated in seoul ?

It's primarily celebrated by the expats in Korea - the average Korean wouldn't know it was on 10/31. Some kids got dressed up because it's a cute holiday, or because it's a Western holiday.

Are they similar or different to our(united states) celelbration ?

In some cases it's quite similar - costumes, alcohol for adults, etc. Trick or treating is set-up, but lacks the energy of the celebration you might have done when you were a kid. Since it's not really celebrated as a native holiday, it may feel like a rip-off of another country's holiday - the same way some St. Patrick's Day parties might in the US.

What does that tell me about them and us ?

It might tell you that the expats in another country will try to keep their own holidays alive, while blending into another culture. It might also tell you that the locals are interested in celebrating a holiday without understanding the meaning and history behind it. Take your pick :)
