This is a bizarre hostel that’s a fantastically interesting place to stay, if you can get over what makes it so strange. Why Not Hostel is located about a 15 minute walk from Kiev’s Maidan Square and is fairly central walking distance to most sites of interest. The staff – who act like a band of displaced teenagers – are unpredictably helpful. There are a number of large dorms, some of which have been taken over by students or locals using the hostel as an apartment – the latter being some of the most interesting people you’ll meet. There’s free wireless, sheets, but nothing else. It’s spartan, messy, if not downright dirty but an oddly comfortable experience nonetheless.
