Google now lets you personalized your homepage with themes. The bus stop theme (shown above) gives the option of entering in a zip code to anywhere in the US. The weather, background, and dress of the characters in the theme will change to reflect the weather to the location you choose. A nice way to keep up with that “daggon rain” grandma keeps talking about no matter where in the world you are.
Of course foXnoMad can be added to Google pages (and Yahoo, AOL, and Bloglines) pages too. Google also comes in hand for some nifty vacation hacking, traffic reports, and even resumes.
the problem with google homepage though is that every time U pull up http://www.google.com just to do a simple search, it takes forever to load all the content you have added. i prefer pageflakes.com which works pretty much the same way without effecting the google load time.
That’s true – use of the tabs on the themes lets you break up the content up a bit so that it doesn’t take forever on each load.
You can have a separate tab for news, another for sports, and so on.
A word of caution though, loading any real-time stock data is slow when the markets are open. If you must keep a constant vigil over your funds, limit to 3 stocks max. per tab.
@chris:
i like the pageflakes layout and def. loads faster and it’s Google search etc. might be hard for me personally to leave Google (i’m such a google-whore, but worth a check. thanks
