Going to India Anytime Soon

I read this interesting fact as I was riding the bike at the gym. India is at the top of my list of places to visit so this caught my eye.

Mile per mile, Indian roads are the 2nd most dangerous in the world beaten out by only Iraq.

But don’t let that discourage you. In fact personally it only made my fascination grow 🙂

For those of you who like to travel my adivce is this – See Europe once, then see the rest of the world.

my first impressions of the swiss–

i thought european life was supposed to be pretty laid back, pretty chill — but that’s not the impression i get from the swiss. but then again the swiss just seem like pretty anal people. don’t get me wrong, i love the atmosphere here, but there are just so many rules! you have to throw your trash away in certain black bags in certain dumpster-type places, you have to cross the street on the yellow crosswalk, aaaaand there are quiet hours (10 p.m. to 7 or 9 a.m… not sure).. i guess these rules are so everyone can live a bit more comfortably, but honestly now, we’re in europe. life is comfortable without all the weird laws. oh and i can’t forget the worst thing EVER… everywhere closes around 6 p.m. everyday with the exception of gas stations and on Thursdays places are open til about 9 p.m. And don’t even think about going shopping on a Sunday because nowhere is open! it’s insane. very picky people, these swiss are…

UNICEF So Far

For those of you who don’t know, UNICEF is the United Nations Children’s Fund established in 1946. UNICEF collects donations that are used to help children all over the world, including the United States.

UNICEF is a cause that is very dear to my heart and one of the reasons is that it is an organization that does not simply throw money towards problems, but uses a system similar to microfinance to build and run schools, provide medical supplies, immunizations, and a host of other things we all take for granted.

I wanted to help – and beginning with last year, decided that all of my Christmas gifts should be donations to UNICEF. Since that time we’ve collected $595 US dollars.

I personally donate a small amount each month, but so many others – family and friends have donated as well. Donations are 100% tax deductible and you’ll be emailed a receipt that might come in handy during tax time.

My goal has been to raise $1,000 in the year 2006. I hope that we will not only meet that goal, but put it to shame by the end of the year.

I hope that you will all help, and put aside a small amount you are comfortable with each month for children in the United States and abroad.

How Tragic…Not Really

What the bloody hell did Steve expect? He’s hopping on top of alligators and wrestling with sharks, I mean come on man…isn’t life dangerous enough? These quotes made me laugh.

Steve Irwin, the TV presenter known as the “Crocodile Hunter,” has died after being stung by a stingray in a marine accident off Australia’s north coast.

This was no accident, you don’t get stung by stingrays unless you are swimming with them.

Australia Prime Minister John Howard said he was “shocked and distressed at Steve Irwin’s sudden, untimely and freakish death,” according to the AP.

Freakish? Not for a “Crocodile Hunter.” Don’t get me wrong, I loved the guy and have a lot of respect for him, but wasn’t this a bit expected?

Now all we have to do is wait for David Blaine.

labor day in switzerland…

…DOES NOT EXIST. so aop1980 wants to hear about labor day in another country? well to be quite honest, i forgot it was labor day until i was reminded by some people at school. that’s right, at SCHOOL. i had class today and my day is going as it usually does… wake up, rush to class, eat lunch, come home, do hw, and later i will play some bball and eat dinner and then hoooopefully go get some gelato. haha so there you have it; labor day in svizzera.? 🙂

Labor Day is Here

Except for me. My office is open today – so I’d like to hear from all of you in the US who have the day off. What are you guys up to? Let me in on the BBQ plans, parties and other events and I’ll be there with you in spirit.

If you’re overseas or in any other country that doesn’t celebrate Labor Day for some added randomness post a little diddy about your day.

Going to the store to buy some Nutella or grab some gelato? Eating some balut in the Philippines?

I’d love to read about it while I’m sitting at the office
