Those of you who were able to catch my live chat yesterday got a sneak peak at the tournament brackets. I’ve placed them below and you’ll notice the top 25 cities from Tuesday’s preliminary votes have already advanced to the Round of 64. Those of you whose cities are sitting comfortably by themselves on a bracket line don’t have anything to worry about until next Tuesday’s Round of 64 voting. Everyone else, well, it’s time to narrow the list of competing cities to 64 by voting in these match ups.
Cast your votes before this Sunday, March 4th at 1pm US EST in each of the match ups below. Your votes will determine the 64 cities that will advance in the next round. Those of you reading through email and RSS will have to click-through to this page to vote.
Please keep in mind the final votes for any poll aren’t final until they’re verified by my diligent verification team. Those of you who have a bye this round don’t fall asleep, the Round of 64 begins next Tuesday, March 6th. Good luck everyone!
Woo, good thing New Orleans has a bye this round. One more week to shake off any leftover Mardi Gras hangover, but next week: bring it on Savannah/Antigua!
Perfect timing for the bye and recovery! Savannah would be an interesting match up though, regional battle π
Voted. Are you not making the results visible till this round closes – or am I just being a bit dim in that I can’t see them? π
You’re not being dim! The results will be hidden until the final hours of this round. I was curious to see what would happen to the results and so far it has made each race *incredibly* close. Results will be visible late today!
Glad I’m not being dim, anyway. π Will keep an eye out for some results later. I guess if people have no idea how the results are panning out, they’ll still vote for their favourite city rather than thinking there’s no point voting if their city is waaay behind. Interesting.
I could also hide the results until someone votes (not with what I’m using now but another polling system) which is another alternative. That might achieve the same results or be closer depending on what people’s preferences are.
Wooow, there were some close ones there. Glad to see Valetta got through and Wandering Earl is safely through to the next round and not so glad to see York fall at the first hurdle. Nevermind. Tomorrow is a new day…! π
It was an especially close 1rst round when compared to last year π Looks like Earl’s confidence in the chat helped him to the next round and you’ve got Venice as most of us predicted. Good luck!
yeah agree, this sucks if you can’t see who is winning. I mean it’s not for real, so people want to see results after voting. I remember last year I thought you had it set up like this?
I did do that last year and this round I wanted to see 3 things. If it would keep votes closer, give smaller cities an advantage, and discourage attempted fraud on the poll; and of course get your opinions too. I’m currently leaning toward keeping the results hidden until the final few hours of voting, though I’m open to hearing other opinions. And while the Best City to Visit Tournament isn’t a political election, the $300 I put up behind it are real so I’m trying to keep the results as fair as possible.
Go Las Vegas!! Hooray!
Good luck, the results will be visible in a few minutes…
Voted! Go KK!! π
Good luck!
Voted! Some were really difficult to choose! But go MedellΓn… oh and go KK too! π
With so many great cities it’s not easy and will get harder as they’re narrowed down!
shame Antigua is trailing against Savannah hope it can pick up some heat, very pretty town. Chang mai and Macau is going to go neck and neck to the end i think. Some great match ups.
Some will be down to the very, very end. Madrid vs. Valencia is a good one…
It’s Da Lat not Dat Lat π
Sorry for the typo, I must have read it wrong initially the first time. It’s not corrected in the poll and will be soon in the brackets above…
I’m so excited Hong Kong made it to the next round π
I’m looking forward to Hong Kong vs. New York, very interesting match up – good luck!
Gutted that we lost BOTH Ho Chi Minh and Hoi An…a shame really. Can you vote as often as u would like?
Sorry both cities lost π The votes are by computer and network; one vote for each combination of the two.
I’ve visited Hoi An before, it’s the beautiful place. Actually I don’t know why this place is failed in your vote results.
It’s hard to say why the votes went the way they did but in the end, there can only be one…
So glad to see two of my favorite cities – Tallinn and Ljubljana are moving on! π
I think they’re going both to be very close in the next round! And one more blogger battle there between Earl and Adventurous Kate π
Suriname the place too be at the capital Paramaribo
Many votes so far but not quite enough though there’s still time!
