Virtual Chinese Firewall Police

Beginning on September 1, 2007, these virtual police will walk, cycle, or drive across the screen reminding users not to view illegal sites. The Internet in China is already censored by the Great Firewall of China (is yours blocked?) and closely monitored.

Sites, forums, and the like, that the communist government finds offensive are all banned. Those traveling to China should install Tor to stay anonymous in Chinese cyberspace. Gmail users can also encrypt their emails with this Firefox plugin, and use Trillian or Meebo for encrypted instant messages.

Download Songs From iPods Without iTunes

iTunes doesn’t let you sync your iPod in more than one location. After trying a few alternatives, I was able to copy all of my music off the iPod to my computer with YamiPod – then re-sync.

Having just installed a fresh copy of Vista, I ended up having my entire digital music collection left on my iPod. YamiPod is (free) and available for Mac, Windows, and Linux machines.

New Word: Frenemy

CNN (yes the former news organization) teaches us about ‘frenemies’ – that is, “females who tangle with their female friends”.

The entire article takes the whole concept a bit too seriously, with experts weighing in on yet another useless-but-fun word (*cough cough* Brangelina) we don’t need in the English language.

I had never heard of this before – ladies, can you help lay down some education in the comments?
