Quite possibly one of the most surprising places I have ever eaten at on my travels. The Deutscher Hof International is a biergarten that servers excellent German food and a number of beers. The two German owners, former soldiers in Afghanistan, originally opened the restaurant in Kabul. As the security situation deteriorated there, they decided to move the establishment to Erbil. It’s located on the old UN base in the city and there is a large patio which is used as a biergarten when the weather is permitting.
