I’ve got a rough idea of where I’ll be traveling this summer. Having just arrived in Washington DC from Quito, Ecuador I’ll be at the Travel Blog Exchange Conference in New York City at the end of June. In between I may go to Chicago then to Panama (or Mexico). Toward the end of the summer I’ll make my way to North Cyprus seeing Poland, Turkey, and a few other places along the way.
What are some of your summer travel plans this year?
My plans are never set until the absolute last minute. They’re always privy to change until that last moment and it’s OK if you’re that way too. I’m hoping to collect some of your plans to share in an upcoming post and would like to hear what you’re up to over the next few months of (Northern Hemisphere) summer?

Heading to California for most of June, then NYC – will be seeing you at TBEX. After that, home to Florida for a visit and think I may just head to Thailand an expat myself for a year! 🙂

we’re actually taking a break from traveling this summer and heading to canada to re-charge & take off again. we’re in nyc for another month and we love it here.

LIke you – my plans are alway evolving and never set in stone. I’m in Boston for June/July (TBEX in June of course!)
However – I have just decided to head to Belgium and the Netherlands in July/August! I’m actually going to do a house-sitting gig in Brussels for 3 weeks and then travel around the area for a bit. Never been to either country so excited to see some new places!
That’s awesome! I’ll see you at TBEX but perhaps in Europe too. I’ll be going back through there, near the Netherlands around then as well.
We’re currently in Adirondack Mts in upstate NY … heading to St. Louis at the end of this month. From there, we’re traveling west and north to see states we’ve spent little/no time in: Colorado, Dakotas, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. From there … who knows!
Sounds like a heck of a road trip!
Unfortunately, we’re going to miss TBEX because we are going to be in Japan and China until the end of July. Then, we head to South Africa, Namibia, and Botswana for two months in mid-August. And, then, the summer is done!
I wish we were able to make it to TBEX but we always end up traveling in the summertime.

Well, Scott and I are back home in Canada from our rtw trip. It was a great 10 months! Our summer plans consist of:
1) Volunteering and Attending Shambhala Music Festival in Salmo, B.C. It’s an epic event located on a beautiful ranch located in a mountain valley with a river. It runs for 5 days with 6 stages all with their own theme/vibe/music genres. We volunteer with our friends at The Village stage that is inspired by an Ewok Village, complete with walk ways all around the stage in the trees. Its an amazing place that we’ve spent our summers at for the past 10 years. Well, we missed it last year due to being on our trip and sure can’t wait to get back!! 2) Since Scott and I have a couple months still before we get back to the daily grind we will also plan to do some camping throughout BC and Alberta. Western Canada has some amazing scenery and what a better place to enjoy it then sleeping right in the middle of it all
3) Otherwise, we will be enjoying our home town Vancouver, BC. I find it a shame our city didn’t make it further in your best city contest! We just finished hosting one of the best winter Olympics to date and our city is now buzzing with pride. Since we’ve been back it sure feel like there is an extra sparkle on everything and the people. Vancouver has a number of great sites to spend your days and one awesome night life for any music taste. We will mostly be found walking or bike riding the streets, enjoying Stanley Park, or relaxing at one of our many great beaches. Most famous would be Wreck Beach. http://www.wreckbeach.org/

I’ve only been close to the border on the US side but loved that entire area. I keep hearing great things about Vancouver and it’s a place I’ve always wanted to visit. I now have even more reasons to see Vancourver 🙂
I’m jealous Quito is a place I’d love to visit. Looks like my plan is to head to the Emerald Isles, not really my kind of destination but I have a wedding to go to.
Qutio is certainly one of the most visually impressive cities I’ve ever seen. I was pleasantly surprised by Ireland on my trip there a few months ago – hopefully the wedding is a good one 🙂

As for myself I fly to Ukraine in June with plans to visit Spain, Turkey, and Germany. Then in mid July I fly to Thailand followed by Bangladesh two weeks later to meet a friend.

I’m planning on going on a cruise through the Caribbean. Probably, St. Thomas, Jamaica, Barbados, Bahamas. Still deciding on the stops. I’m pretty excited to go a bunch of places that I would never go to otherwise.
I’ve enjoyed the few cruises I’ve been on. It’s an experience in itself plus you get to hop around to a few places 🙂
Anil, I’ll be seeing you in NYC at TBEX10. My biggest summer adventure will be a three week trip to Montana where my husband and I will be checking out (and photographing) the Bitterroot Valley and the Stillwater River Valley. This has been on our list for a long time. We can hardly wait. Then, of course, there’s a trip to Jacksonville, FL in August for the birth of my second grandchild.

Wish I could be going to Turkey!!!! I’ll be going to places, mainly, in North America…Canada, California, possibly Boston…hopefully, Boston…North Carolina…but I do have a trip planned for Singapore and Malaysia at the end of the summer- the first 3 weeks of August. I have to speak at a conference in K.L. and then I’m going to Singapore for about a week and then up to KK (Sabah) for a few days.
You’ll be busy and good blogging material as well 🙂

I’m getting geared up for a winter here in Queenstown. I’m planning on sticking around to see what their snowboard season is like – I’ve heard excellent things, and am excited to experience it.
Like you, I make my plans as they come. I’d like to get over to Auz while I’m still in NZ, and then get home to Iowa for a couple months before setting of for South Korea. Maybe a stint teaching English? Who knows … that’s all part of the fun.
Open-ended plans make traveling much less stressful for most people I think. Can’t wait to read about what the skiing/snowboarding is like down there, it’s been a full two seasons since I’ve been.
Riding my motorcycle to Alaska and back south. Been on the road three already, although I’m still looking for the summer weather. Got into the North Rim of the Grand Canyon today on opening day. It’s been a blast already and getting to some beautiful areas now.
Motorcycles make every trip better 🙂 Great way to travel, glad you’re out there doing it!
Hey Anil – I’ll be heading to NYC and Boston over the next month and then flying out to the Middle East hopefully by the end of June. And then I shall be in Syria, Lebanon, Turkey and Iraq (Kurdistan only) over the following few months…
All plans subject to change of course, but this is what I’m aiming for at the moment…

I’m not exactly sure if I’ll still be in the US at the end of June but if I am, I’ll be in the NYC area so we’ll definitely have to meet up. I’ll be in touch as my plans slowly begin to take shape!
The great summer holiday debate is heating up around here, we are looking at trips to Japan, Montenegro and Egypt at the moment, who knows what else may come our way. Very jealous of Earl’s plans for a big Middle East trip!

Egypt will be planned around a volunteering project my wife will be doing. The other two are just places that we have really wanted to go to for a long time. Admittedly its not a very logical itinerary but I’m sure it will all come together!
If you want to go somewhere and can, seems perfectly logical to me 🙂
Going to try train travel in the U.S. w/my kids using rail passes (30 day pass and will go on 2 trips). It works out financially better than driving even plus I don’t like driving so it’s a win/win. Also doing a whole week on a North Carolina beach with 25 family members. Great way to do an affordable trip for a big variety of ages. Looking forward to it!
Getting around by train can be so much more relaxing than driving. Just curious, what type of rail pass did you get? Sounds like a great deal.
30 day rail pass on Amtrak. A bit over $500 for adults and around $250 for kids under 16 so for about $1000, we’ll take 2 long train trips w/in 30 days which is less than we’d pay in gas.
That sounds really fun. Does that price include a sleeping car for the overnight rides? And how long are the trips you’re going to take? Just wondering. It sounds like something I’d like to do with my son someday.
Oh how I would love to be at TBEX. Since we’re taking a big European trip in September, we won’t stray far from home this summer. Just a little jaunt up to the Mogollan Rim country in Arizona–cool at forested relief from the desert for a few days. If we can’t stand the heat in July we might flee to a California beach for a few days, but otherwise, just planning for France, Bruges and Amsterdam.
Too bad I won’t get to meet you this year at TBEX but Europe in September is great. The weather, less crowds, great time to go 🙂
Awww too bad I’ll be missing TBEX, everyone seems to be going! I’ll be spending summer in Ireland then India and finally Mallorca. Rwanda is on my list, but we’ll hafta see about that! Have a good summer ahead!

We starting our summer in southern Spain, then slowly heading up to Barcelona for most of June with a trip to Andorra, the Pyrenees & Costa Brava while based there. We will return to Provence, Versailles and Paris and discover new places in there as we delve even deeper this year now that kidlet is bigger. We also will see the Swiss Alps and Lake Como in Italy with perhaps another stop in Cinque Terra on the way since we loved it so much last summer. Perhaps Sardinia and Corsica if we can fit them in.
This fall we head back to California to visit family ( it will have been 2 years since our last visit) then Hawaii, Tahiti before settling into Penang Malaysia for the winter where our child will immerse in her 3rd language Mandarin at a local school there.
This summer we celebrate our 4th year of our open-ended, non-stop world tour…so exciting!!

Hey Anil, Great to hear of so many adventurous plans! This summer will be in Europe for us. A couple of trips to France planned, a likely week in Spain for me on a blogging trip, and then two weeks in the Balkans at the end of summer: Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Croatia. Flights to Tirana and out of Dubrovnik booked, the rest we’ll make up when we get there.
But as you know, plans can change…

Unfortunately I’ll be missing TBEX, but I’ve got quite a summer of travel on tap: June – Spain. July – Germany, then France. August – England. September – Italy, Holland. I’ll be volunteering in Spain, house-sitting in England and Italy. In between, I’m traveling through France with my mum, and visiting friends everywhere else. It’s amazing how quickly four months can fill up! All we have to do now is ensure the volcano in Iceland behaves….
Wow! Awesome Europe summer plans 🙂 Good luck with that volcano I can’t pronounce, hopefully it’s not too much of a nuisance this summer. Also, I’ll be in the Hamburg area for a bit at the end of July, maybe our paths will cross and we can meet up.
This summer we have just one destination: 5 weeks in Brazil. We will stay with family who live in 2 places and then take a road trip to historic towns in the state of Minas Gerais. I have lots of plans for our time in Sao Paulo since there’s still a lot there I haven’t done.
We also hope to take some small trips here in California but we don’t have set plans for those yet.
Your plans sound great. I haven’t been to Turkey but it’s high on my list. What I’ve seen of Poland is wonderful. Have fun!

Actually, I’m about to get a new camera, so I’m pretty excited about the picture opportunities– there’s a lot to photograph there. Yes, we see them pretty often. We go there at least once a year (my husband is from there and his whole family is still there). It gets a little repetitive for me, but I try to make the most of it.
