McCain’s MySpace Hacked

When I last posted about techPresident the comments on presidential cadidates having MySpace pages were mostly negative. Well it seems that some bright soul in the McCain camp decided to use (without crediting) a template created by Newsvine. On top of that they pulled images without permission eating up bandwidth which called for geeky revenge.

For those of you who despise FakeSpace pages of famous people who have college interns maintaining them, you’ll get a kick out of this. Who knew he liked lesbians?

Offset Your Travel CO2 Emissions

As we’ve posted before, traveling, in particular flying, creates “a lot” of pollution. Those of you who like to hop around the Earth may want to do so without destroying it. Native Energy allows you to offset the extra – actually all – of the CO2 emissions you create in a year. First calculate the number of tons your household is responsible for annually. Round it up to the nearest whole number, for example 10. Native Energy then allows you to “offset” that same amount for $10 per month with 100% clean and renewable energy (for 10 tons).

December 8, 2006 – Bratislava, Slovakia

Cheap (until sometime in 2007) and an different look at Europe, Bratislava was highly acclaimed by the student who sent us this picture. There is also a write-up (use the search on Deniz’s blog, aop1980.com/deniz).
November 1, 2006 – Nice, France

Taken on Peaceluvbug’s academic travel.
August 28, 2006 – Valle Versazca, Switzerland

Peaceluvbug’s adventures and education in the beautiful surroundings of Switzerland begin the fall semester off right.

August 8, 2006 – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The beautiful beaches in Brazil, taken during the middle of South American spring. Good food and good times, it was the right location for E-Dubs’ first trip outside of North America.

July 27, 2006 – Seattle, USA

This is our first, official “top.” Taken by one of our editors, aop1980, in Seattle, Washington (in the States), it seemed appropriate. Seattle, my favorite city state-side has a small town feel, people are friendly, and if you love art and music, it’s a place you need to see. What to hang out and meet some people? Head over to one of the many coffee shops in Seattle. There are about 4 per street corner, and everyone will chat you up about their beloved city.

CC The DOT In Compliants to Airlines

A good idea from the Wall Street Journal [via The Consumerist] to pack a punch in your next complaint email to the airline that spited you is to CC the Department of Transportation.

Some airlines admit they do pay more attention to consumer complaints if travelers send them to the DOT, which categorizes and tallies complaints and publishes monthly rankings of airline performance.

The DOT says it sometimes uses complaint data in enforcement actions against airlines and in rule-making decisions — a history of lots of complaints can work against an airline. The agency also points out trends with airlines hoping to pressure change.

In case you need to write a nasty email, here is the information you should include. Seems this technique could be used in other complaints to other businesses as well. CC the appropriate regulatory agency and Better Business Bureau in all of your complaint emails.
