This post is a part of Geek Takeover Week 2013.
The annual costume contest held during the Las Vegas Star Trek Convention sums up why 10,000 people like me attend each year. The enthusiasm and unabashed nerdiness colored by a rainbow of intergalactic aliens is infectious. Although I haven’t found a way to pack a Klingon outfit into my backpack, I was given access by Creation Entertainment to the other element of the costume contest – a worldly competition to break the Guinness World Record for most people dressed up in Star Trek outfits.
Eventually the world record was won back from Fed Con of Germany (the Vegas convention’s main costumed rival) and these are just some of the 1,085 who helped make it so.

Here’s What The Record Breaking Moment Was Like
You can check out more of my pictures from the 2013 Star Trek Las Vegas Convention here.
OMG, I am so jealous you were there! It blows me away how intricate some of these costumes are. Where the heck do they get them??? I may have to attend this next year.
You should definitely attend, especially if you haven’t before. It’s Trek paradise for 4 days!
Most of the intricate costumes are handmade. So many people I asked had wonderful stories about how their costumes came to be. Eric Hall (the Borg below at left) has been working on his costume for years, adding a bit here and there a little at a time.
And the Bajoran warrior created the logo-belt using parts of a steel can… although I can’t tell, it’s done so well 🙂
Haha! Looks like a good laugh.
The Borg guys have taken the costumes to the next level!
It’s a nerdy good time 🙂
And the Borg costume gets more and more complex every year. It’s only one part of his wardrobe, he (Eric Hall) wears a different costume every day of the convention!
As the second Borg nearest the camera, braking costume sans helmet, it was a great time taking part in the costume contest. Too bad Guinness World Records STILL HAS NOT UPDATED our successful recording breaking collective of 1085 people in Trek costumes at the Vegas Star Trek Convention. WTF!!! That’s strange, have you heard word from either? I wonder if it takes a few months to verify and update.
