Beat The Holiday Pricing System

The holiday travel season is upon us, and psychoPEDIA has a good rundown of the fees you can expect to pay and perks for a few major airlines.

Don??t dare call; American Airlines has the most annoying computer that is unavoidable, even after pressing zero. They have some of the highest fees and don??t even provide free snacks.

Airline can charge ridiculous fees at this time of year because they know people can’t be flexible with their dates or destinations, usually don’t buy early, and simply put – more people travel. Take Peaceluvbug’s advice students out there and bring gifts (don’t buy from airports) and avoid fees by making sure your suitcase isn’t too heavy.

Scope Your Restaurant Menus Online: MenuPix

Dan writes a good place to plan your next meal out by viewing the actual menus is MenuPix. Travelers can use the site to see actual scan of menus across the US.

10 Best And Worst Airports To Crash In

The Budget Traveller’s Guide to Sleeping In Airports lists the top 10 best and worst airports around the world.

Singapore, Hong Kong, and Seoul Incheon top the list (Istanbul is 8th). In general, the best airports are in Asia, while Europe and North America (Paris, New York (JFK) LAX) don’t fare so well. The results are a very non-scientific polling of their online readers.

I’d have to agree with most of the list – Asian airports seem designed to better handle the masses, whereas American airports are all function, no style. Since flight delays are at their worst in 13 years, chances are you’ll be spending a night at some point of you travels. Scope the best place in every airport to make the most of it.

Magic Mushrooms Disappearing In Holland

Hallucinogenic mushrooms have been selling in Holland’s “smart shops” for the past 2 decades, but after some high-profile incidents, they won’t be for long.

The mushroom ban fits into a wider crackdown on Holland’s lenient soft-drug policy. For more than three decades the Dutch state has tolerated the purchase and use of marijuana. But after reaching its peak in 2000, the Dutch drug gospel is starting to lose strength. Holland’s world-famous “coffee shops” are facing ever more restrictions. Over the last decade their number has dropped by 40 percent.

There is resistance to the proposed ban argues that the illegal drug trade is more dangerous than a mushroom trip. The Dutch government has tested ecstasy pills at parties and provided clean heroin syringes in recent years.

If you are going to Amsterdam to smoke pot, brush up on the rules first. A nationwide smoking ban (tobacco too) is going into effect July 2008.
